Dipu (from Dhaka)
Dipu (pronounced DIH-poo) is a craftsman in the carpet weaving trade. He lives and works in Dhaka (pronounced DAH-kah), the capital of the southern Asian nation of Bangladesh.
He was raised in his father’s business. He has woven since he was an adolescent. There are two things that keep him excited. He gets to work in bright colors and patterns all day long. His goods are durable, so people are sure to enjoy the fruits of his labor for many years to come.
When he isn’t working, Dipu likes to go fishing. He’s concerned because the four rivers that surround his city have become very polluted (the Buriganga, Shitalakhya, Turag, and Balu). Bangladeshi people are an adaptive and resilient breed, so he’s confident that a solution can be found.
Dipu is married with two children. His favorite hobby is watching a cricket match.
